President's Update
Dr. John Zarling - Spring 2020

Welcome to a new year at USPA

Itís the start of a new year and a new decade, and USPA is moving forward with our 2020 vision. I want to thank the outgoing board members for all their contributions: J.J. Frost, John Thornley, and Tom Douglas. Our new board members are Peppi Croft, Shannon and Wilson in Fairbanks, AK as Treasurer; Mark Bennett, Campbell Scientific in Logan, UT as Member-at-large; and Torsten Mayrberger, PND in Anchorage, AK as Member-at-large. Cathy Wilson moved from Member-at-large to President-elect and Dima moved to the Past president position. We thank Dima for a job well done as president.

Tom Douglas has taken on the role as Chairperson of the RCOP to be held during the summer of 2021 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. USPA has already established a website for this regional conference. Michael Lilly has taken on the responsibility as Communications Committee Chairperson, and Jerry Brown will continue as Chairperson of the Membership Committee for 2020.

The USPA Board of Directors is always looking for members who want to be more involved in the workings of the Association. Tom Douglas, Michael Lilly, and Jerry Brown, as well as the Board, would welcome volunteers. Your Board of Directors will likely have a meeting in February to define the 2020 agenda. Some projects the Board will be addressing and working on during 2020 include:

  • Further membership growth
  • Revising and updating its website
  • Fundraising for RCOP and for travel stipends for USPA early career members attending the ICOP in Lanzhou, China

USPA welcomes notes/news from its membersí research and educational projects. We would publish notes/news on the USPA webpage. Member activities completed in 2019 will be included in our 2019 Annual Report. Please email write-ups to the USPA email address: info@uspermafrost.org

I am looking forward to a productive year.

John Zarling
